NEW YORK (AP) — It’s summertime on Wall Street. A listless day of trading yesterday left the stock market with a tiny loss for the week, its second this month. But the major stock indexes drifted slightly higher going into the weekend. The S&P 500 index edged up four points to close at 1,960. The Dow Jones industrials gained six points to close at 16,851.And the Nasdaq rose 19 points to 4,397.
UNDATED (AP) — The price of oil is holding steady. Benchmark U.S. crude for August delivery only slipped 10 cents yesterday to close at $105.74 a barrel in New York. Brent crude, a benchmark used to price international oils, rose 9 cents to close at $113.30 a barrel in London. Meanwhile, the average retail price of gasoline nationwide held steady on Friday at $3.68 per gallon.
DETROIT (AP) — GM is recalling another 474,000 vehicles. One recall involves nearly 467,000 four-wheel-drive Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups, as well as GMC Yukon and Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban SUVs for a transmission problem. Two other recalls involve windshield wipers in the Chevrolet SS and Caprice police cars and defective shock absorbers in Chevy Corvettes.
NEW YORK (AP) — Ten thousand cartons of Haagen-Dazs chocolate peanut butter ice cream are being recalled because they’re mislabeled. Nestle says the lids are labeled correctly, but the list of ingredients doesn’t say the ice cream contains peanuts. That could create a hazard for people with peanut allergies. The recall affects 14-ounce cartons of ice cream with a best-by date of May 13, 2015.
NEW YORK (AP) — Nielsen says the NBA draft has delivered its highest rating on ESPN, surpassing the mark set 11 years ago when LeBron James was the No. 1 pick. Thursday night’s telecast had a 2.3 rating. NBA Digital also says it showed record growth in the U.S. with a 108 percent jump in mobile application unique users for the week.
