A McLean mansion once owned by the late Sen. Ted Kennedy just sold for $9.5 million, the highest-priced sale in Fairfax County this year.
According to listing service MRIS, it is the second-highest price paid for a property anywhere in the Washington area this year.
Long & Foster Inc. listed the property in January for $9.8 million, and represented both seller and buyer. It had been listed with other firms for several years before Long & Foster took the listing.
The Chain Bridge Road house, with 6.5 acres, includes views of the Potomac River. Its neighbors include the three most expensive homes in the Washington Metro, according to Washingtonian Magazine, owned by AOL co-founder Jim Kimsey, former AOL partner Steve Case and Entrepreneur Rodney Hunt.
Long & Foster says the buyers have requested anonymity.
Only one other listing in the Washington region has sold for more this year. A property in Middleburg sold in July for $11.5 million.
