Judge: Vegas shooting suspect fakes mental illness

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Nevada judge says a 25-year-old defendant is faking mental illness to avoid retrial on charges he fired a gun while trying to steal costumes and props from “Thunder From Down Under” male revue cast members at a Las Vegas Strip resort.

Joey Kamari refused Friday to be brought to court where Clark County District Judge Linda Marie Bell told his lawyers that Kadmiri had been found competent for retrial on felony burglary, robbery, battery and weapon charges that could get him decades in prison.

Bell says one of two doctors who examined Kadmiri determined he’s pretending to be incompetent.

Kadmiri pleaded not guilty in the March 18 incident at the Excalibur Hotel and Casino.

His first trial ended in mistrial in July due to juror misconduct.
