NYC police investigate tot’s death after day care

NEW YORK (AP) — New York City police are investigating the death of a 14-month-old girl after she was picked up from day care.

Police said Saturday the parents of Daniella Okoye (oh-KOH’-yah) took her home in her car seat Friday and were told she was sleeping.

Her father told investigators he didn’t notice Daniella was unconscious until they returned home. The parents called 911, and the girl was pronounced dead at a hospital. The medical examiner will determine how she died.

Police are investigating when and where Daniella died. No charges have been filed.

The death comes just over a week after a Bronx day care worker was arrested on manslaughter charges in the beating death of a 20-month-old boy.
