10 most stressful and least stressful jobs

WASHINGTON – January is a good time to look for a job, as many companies start new budget years with funding to hire staff, Forbes.com reports.

If you’re looking to change your job or career this year, you may want to consider how stressful your job is and whether you want to move ahead or downshift.

Job stress can come from a variety of factors, including how much travel is required, deadlines, job hazards and competitiveness. Careers that include an element of danger or exposure to tough environmental conditions tend to be more stressful than some office jobs.

CareerCast ranked the 10 most stressful and the 10 least stressful jobs based on those factors plus how much work is in the public eye, growth potential, physical demands and other factors.

The most stressful jobs, according to CareerCast, belong to enlisted military personnel, followed by military general and firefighter. Here’s the complete list of the 10 most stressful jobs:

  4. university professor (tenured)
  5. seamstress or tailor
  6. dietician

  10. drill-press operator
