Travelers leave $350k behind

WASHINGTON – Many airline passengers are telling the TSA to keep the change after leaving nearly a million dollars in plastic security bins over a two-year span.

According to MSNBC, it is only a dime here, and a penny there, but all that unwanted change adds up. In 2010, travelers left $380,000 behind. In 2009, the abandoned coins totaled nearly $400,000.

Right now, the Transportation Security Administration gets to keep that chunk of change, but Congressman Jeff Miller, R-Fla., thinks it should go to the United Service Organization. As head of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, Miller is trying to push a bill forward that would credit the unclaimed cash to the USO which operates military centers at 41 U.S. airports.
