Va. woman killed in 6-car crash

WASHINGTON — A 50-year-old woman was killed in six-car crash on Sunday evening while driving in the northbound lanes of Route 17 in Stafford County, Virginia.

Sue Ann Collins, of Summerduck, Va., died after the driver of a Ford F150, Myron Vaughn, 49, sideswiped her 1990 Volvo station wagon, forcing Collins’ car off the left side of the road and over the median before overturning in the southbound lanes of Route 17.

Collins was ejected from the Volvo and struck by another Ford pickup which was traveling south.

Collins’ 8-year-old passenger was taken to Mary Washington Hospital.

The crash began when Vaughn, of Stafford, Va., sideswiped a Honda sedan in the right lane of Route 17. Both cars were traveling north. Then Vaughn sideswiped a Honda minivan also in the right lane. Vaughn then continued driving and sideswiped the Volvo Collins was driving in the left lane.

After colliding with the Volvo, Vaughn ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree.

None of the occupants of the other four cars were injured.

The crash is under investigation.
