Va. woman charged with neglect after daughter nearly drowns

WASHINGTON – A Manassas woman was charged with felony child neglect after police say she left her five young children unsupervised near a pool and one of them nearly drowned.

Giovanna Narvaez, 23, left her children – ages 1 through 8 – to sign in a guest at the Westgate community pool on Tuesday. Her 4-year-old daughter was found at the bottom of the pool during the time Narvaez was gone, reports a news release.

A 9-year-old girl who was also at the pool spotted the young child in the water and pulled her to the surface. Initially, the 4 year old was unresponsive, but lifeguards performed CPR and were able to resuscitate her.

The victim was flown to a local hospital and and is expected to make a full recovery.

Narvaez was charged for leaving the three youngest children.
