Headphones prompt lockdown at Loudoun Co. High School

WASHINGTON — What a security person at Loudoun County High School thought was a weapon prompted a lockdown at the school in Leesburg, Virginia Wednesday.

Leesburg Police Lt. Jeff Dubé tells WTOP the male student had was a pair of headphones that folds and collapses.

Dube says the school security employee “observed what she thought was a male subject carrying a handgun while monitoring the school security cameras,” according to a news release.

Multiple police units responded at 8:06 a.m. to the school at 415 Dry Mill Rd.

Officers searched outside and inside the school for the student.

When they located him, they found he did not have a weapon, Dubé says. The student was only carrying headphones.

Everyone at the school was safe, and police say there were no dangers to students during the lockdown,

All emergency protocols worked as they were designed to do, police say.
