Worker struck by VDOT dump truck dies

WASHINGTON – A contract worker for the Virginia Department of Transportation was killed after he was struck by another VDOT dump truck in Loudoun County, Virginia State Police say.

The incident occurred at 5:53 a.m. Thursday on Belmont Ridge Road at the intersection of Chesterton Street in Ashburn.

Police say the worker had pulled his truck off to the right shoulder and was standing at the rear of the truck near the spreader when he was struck by the truck.

He was taken to Loudoun Hospital Center, where he died.

Police say the driver of the second dump truck was not injured.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
