Jack Nicklaus to take up residence in Loudoun County

Legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus will soon be able to keep a much closer look at his signature golf course at Creighton Farms in Loudoun County.

Southworth Development CEO David Southworth said Tuesday that construction has begun on a new, 5,500-square-foot home Nicklaus and his wife, Barbara, had specially designed in the luxury residential community that boasts other celebrity owners including Washington Redskins Quarterback Robert Griffin III.

“Our community embraces the involvement of Jack and Barbara Nicklaus at Creighton Farms,” Southworth said. “It’s always a delight to spend time with them for business or pleasure, and we look forward to the whole family visiting and enjoying Creighton Farms.”

Nicklaus has been planning to have a home built for him at Creighton Farms for several years. The WBJ first reported on his plans back in July 2010. Southworth, which owns the 900-acre community, said the home is being developed off the ninth hole of the golf course, appropriately in the North Villas section of the community’s Nicklaus Village neighborhood.

The golfer’s new home was designed by Creighton Enterprises and will include four bedrooms, four and a half baths, multiple porches and a grand circular staircase. Southworth was unable to provide renderings. Community spokeswoman Cindy Lawrence said Nicklaus is planning a summer 2014 move-in date.

Southworth, which declined to comment when RG3 bought his home for $2.5 million last spring, was likewise mum on how much Nicklaus is spending to build or how much he paid for the lot. Lots in the community range from $495,000 to $1.3 million, excluding home costs. Homes on some of the larger lots are valued at about $10 million.

Lawrence noted the Nicklauses have made appearances in the community over the years. Most recently, they were in town for the Creighton Farms Invitational, which Nicklaus hosted, in mid-September. The event raised nearly $600,000 for the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation.

Nicklaus offered this statement on his new home: “Creighton Farms is a special place. It’s a beautiful property and Southworth has created a special blend of quality amenities, and a comfortable atmosphere for members and residents. I look forward to every opportunity I have to visit Creighton Farms, and enjoy the company of the other residents and members.”
