Loudoun County school bus involved in Purcellville crash

WASHINGTON – More than a dozen Loudoun County Public School students were in a school bus when it crashed in Purcellville Friday morning.

The Loudoun County school bus was involved in a crash in the 36900 block of Main Street at about 7:30 a.m. The bus was on its way to Mountain View Elementary School at 5600 McLeod Way, Haymarket, Va., when the bus crashed.

Fire crews pulled the driver from the bus. Emergency crews transported the driver to INOVA Cornwall for further evaluation.

Emergency crews took 16 children to an area hospital as a precaution, a Loudoun County Public Schools spokesperson says. The students are expected to be OK, the spokesperson adds. The students who did not go to the hospital were taken to school.

Officials have not released information about what led to the crash.

The Loudoun County School Board has been notified of the incident.
