Fire in Howard Co. causes $150,000 in damage

WASHINGTON – Howard County Fire and Rescue responded to a house fire Tuesday evening in Columbia, Md.

Crews responded shortly after 7 p.m. to the 6300 block of Scarlet Petal. A second alarm was dispatched and about 50 firefighters worked for half an hour to extinguish the blaze.

One woman was home at the time and escaped without injury. Three residents were displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

The fire is still under investigation but officials estimated the damage at $150,000.
