Man dies in Fairfax County house fire

WASHINGTON — A man was killed in a house fire in Fairfax County on Monday night.

Captain Randy Bittinger, of the Fairfax County Fire Department, says that firefighters got to the single-family house at 7032 Barbara Rd., in the Franconia-Alexandria section, at about 10 p.m. and found “heavy fire.”

An elderly woman and an adult man came out of the house, and firefighters helped them to the street, Bittinger says, but a man they found inside the house had died.

The other two, whom Bittinger believes are mother and son, were taken to Fairfax Hospital, then the Burn Center. They have non-life threatening injuries.

Bittinger says that they are still working to identify the man who died in the house until next of kin has been notified. He thinks he was a member of the family as well.

Police and fire investigators are still working to determine the cause.
