The Fresh Market coming to Falls Church

High-end grocery store The Fresh Market will anchor a new mixed-use development in Falls Church slated to open in fall 2014.

The Reserve at Tinner Hill project is a collaboration between NVRetail and Lincoln Property Co. and will include 224 upscale rental apartments and 46,000 square feet of retail. The developers are currently in the site-planning process with the city of Falls Church and expect the project to open in just over a year.

The Fresh Market will take 24,000 square feet of that retail space at the intersection of South Maple Ave. and Washington Street. NVRetail is actively marketing the remainder of the square footage.

“We’re going to shoot for a mixture of the daily needs retail with some new and exciting restaurant uses for Falls Church,” said Jack Waghorn, president of NVRetail.

Waghorn hopes having the more upscale The Fresh Market as the anchor of the retail space will set the tone for other retailers.

“Their operation is really geared toward a more discerning kind of shopper that I think we will have in that Falls Church market,” Waghorn said. “By having them as our anchor, they will sort of carry that type of retail throughout the entire project.”

The Greensboro, N.C.-based grocery store has been ramping up its Mid-Atlantic expansion during the past few years; currently, there are Fresh Markets in Vienna and Rockville, with two others planned in Ashburn at the One Loudoun development as well as in Alexandria’s West End at the Bradlee Shopping Center.
