WASHINGTON – A 38-year-old woman found dead after an apartment fire in Reston early Monday morning was pregnant, Fairfax Police say.

Jennifer Pearson’s death is being investigated as a homicide. She suffered trauma to her upper body as well as severe burns, police said Monday afternoon. Police identified Pearson as the victim Tuesday.

A neighbor in the Waterside View Drive apartments called 911 just after 6:10 a.m. Monday after smelling smoke. But when firefighters arrived, they say that Pearson was already dead.

The flames were confined to one room where Pearson was found, Fairfax County Deputy Fire Chief Mike Riley said Monday.

No other residents in the apartment building are displaced because of the flames, according to the fire marshal.

The cause of the fire and the cause of Pearson’s death remain under investigation.
