Acadia named nation’s ‘favorite place’

BAR HARBOR, Maine (AP) — Acadia National Park in Maine has been named America’s Favorite Place by viewers of ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

Acadia beat out Chicago’s Lakefront, Glacier National Park, Gulf Shores and Lake Tahoe for the honor.

The show described Acadia as “one of the crown jewels of Maine, with nearly 50,000 acres of jaw-dropping beauty.”

Sheridan Steele, park superintendent at Acadia, said the park’s workers are “proud and excited” by the honor, adding that the park’s scenic beauty is prefect for hiking, biking, and paddling.

Gov. Paul LePage says the honor lets the world see what Maine residents sometimes take for granted.
