Video: Tips for ‘Responsible Drinking’ from ACPD

Predators are prowling local bars, looking for victims who’ve had “one too many,” according to a new safety video from the Arlington County Police Department.

The police department video, which stars interns from ACPD’s criminal investigative division, lists seven tips for “responsible drinking.” Those tips include:

  • Go out with friends and always arrive and leave together
  • Never leave your drink unattended
  • Don’t accept drinks from strangers
  • If you let someone buy you a drink, make sure you watch the drink being poured
  • Watch out for your friends and check on each other through the night
  • If you see a friend acting strangely or out of character, get them to a safe place immediately
  • Never walk home or even to the Metro alone

The video also encourages residents “never hesitate” to call police after spotting suspicious activity. Residents can call 911 in emergencies, or the non-emergency line at 703-558-2222.

A police department spokesman declined to cite specific examples of crimes that occurred during or after encounters at Arlington bars.
