City of Alexandria wants to expand red-light program

WASHINGTON — City Hall in Alexandria wants to expand its red-light camera program.

The first of the two new cameras would go in at Duke Street and Walker Avenue; the second, at South Patrick and Gibbon Streets.

The cameras are included in the proposed fiscal 2015 budget. According to city officials, the cameras would help reduce crashes and boost revenue without raising property taxes.

A police spokeswoman says the intersections are among the top 10 intersections for car crashes. The plan could be a topic of discussion at a budget presentation scheduled for Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Charles Beatley Central Library.
