FEMA approves aid to some, leaves others left out

WASHINGTON — FEMA has approved federal disaster assistance to help eight local governments in Virginia with the costs of cleanup from Tropical Storm Lee flooding.

Fairfax and Prince William counties and the City of Alexandria are included.

Other communities statewide will also be getting some money for flood prevention to help reduce future problems.

The exact amounts have not yet been determined.

But a group of Woodbridge residents is not happy with FEMA.

They intend to picket outside the agency’s southwest Washington office tomorrow to protest the denial of direct aide for them.

The 66 families were flooded out of the Holly Acres Trailer Park along Route One during the same storm this summer and most are still looking for permanent housing.
