"From Billions to None" Film & Lecture

See the film "From Billions to None" about the extinction of the Passenger Pigeon, and take in a lecture with Producer/Director/Writer David Mrazek and Co-Producer/Co-Writer Joel Greenberg. The event starts at 6 p.m. Monday, September 22 at the National Museum of Natural History's Baird Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public, but attendees are asked to RSVP.

Gabriel Figueroa Exhibit at the Mexican Cultural Institute

The exhibition "Gabriel Figueroa, Cinematographer. Great Moments in Mexico's Golden Age of Cinema" through November 3 at the Mexican Cultural Institute is a celebration of his life in documents, photographs, film clips, posters and more. Admission is free. Also, several free events are being held in conjunction with the exhibit, including film screenings October 15 and October 30. RSVP to attend any of these events.

"Making Their Mark" Exhibit

The "Making Their Mark: Stories Through Signatures" exhibit at the National Archives runs March 21, 2014-January 5, 2015. It includes Adolf Hitler's signature on his marriage certificate and will, an "X" signed by a slave who couldn't read, and a patent for shoes filed by Michael Jackson and others allowing him to do an amazing signature move on stage. Admission is free.

The National Postal Museum's exhibition "Behind the Badge: United States Postal Inspection" shines a light on a lot of work most of us take for granted: the job of keeping our mail safe. Highlights include an anthrax-laced letter addressed to Senator Tom Daschle, handcuffs used on Unabomber Ted Kaczynski, and a touch table that lets visitors see if they can spot potentially dangerous mail.
