This year's NoMa Summer Screen free outdoor film series runs May 22-August 21 with a theme of "Outlaw Heroes". Movies include Star Trek: The Future Begins, The Italian Job, Hunger Games and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. The NoMa BID is also sponsoring a free Family Film Night series at Sursum Corda June 18-August 6.

Herndon's free Friday Night Live Concert Series in held on the Town Green in downtown Herndon, starting at 6:30 p.m. May 3 through August 23. Some nights you'll be treated to two bands instead of just one!

There's a new, free concert series at the National Air and Space Museum's Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly. Catch the performances at 6 p.m. on the fourth Sunday of every month, May 26-August 25. La Plata hosts a free Friday night Summer Concert series, May 24-September 27. Concerts start at 7 p.m. and are held on the lawn of La Plata Town Hall. Lawn chairs and blankets are encouraged, and there's a play area for kids.

The African American Civil War Memorial and Museum will mark the Sesquicentennial of the establishment of the Bureau of U.S. Colored Troops with a wreath laying ceremony at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 22. At noon, there will be a lecture and book signing by author Rachel Swarns about her book "American Tapestry: The Story of the Black, White, and Multiracial Ancestors of Michelle Obama." Both events are free.

Family Meal in Frederick is offering its first annual free, Summer Drive-in Movie Series, every other Wednesday, May 22 through Sept. 11. Family-friendly films are shown on a 40-foot screen in their parking lot, plus there's local live music before each film. The parking lot opens at 6 p.m., the music starts at 7, followed by the movie at 8:30.

The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum's newest exhibit and website is called "Some Were Neighbors: Collaboration & Complicity in The Holocaust". It explores how thousands of ordinary people either tolerated or supported the Nazis' crimes against Jews. Museum admission is free, but from March through August you need a timed ticket to see the museum's Permanent Exhibition.

If you've never seen The U.S. Army Military District of Washington's Twilight Tattoo, put it on your summer to-do list. It's an hour-long military pageant held on Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall, Va. The National Zoo's large and high-tech new Elephant Trails Elephant Community Center is now open! The zoo's three Asian elephants can now freely roam in and out of two buildings. The space includes a giant sand pit, a wading pool, and a shower the elephants themselves can turn on and off.

The new exhibition at the National Air and Space Museum in D.C. Called "Time and Navigation", described as the untold story of getting from here to there. It features 144 objects including a navigating satellite, a robotic vehicle that can drive itself, and a representation of a 19th century ship from the U.S. Exploring Expedition. Admission is free.
