Unique exhibit opening at Spartanburg Art Museum

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — A unique exhibit is putting down anchor at the Spartanburg Art Museum.

The exhibit opening on Friday is entitled “Memory Ship” by artist Chis Nitsche. It recreates a 50-foot ship that seems to bisect the gallery walls. The installation is made of 500 square feet of salvaged wood that took almost two weeks to assemble.

There are several portholes in the ship though which visitors can see the artist’s ideas about memory. There are also several small sculptures on display.

The exhibit continues through next Feb. 5.
