US Book Festival adds programs on movies, cooking

WASHINGTON (AP) — New events are being added to this year’s National Book Festival, including a discussion with writers whose books were made into movies, and cooking demonstrations by top chefs.

The festival on Saturday runs from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. It’s moving inside to the Washington Convention Center after a decade on the National Mall.

The “Great Books to Great Movies” discussion Saturday evening will feature authors E.L. Doctorow, Paul Auster, Alice McDermott and Lisa See. Doctorow will receive the Library of Congress Prize for American Fiction.

New pavilions this year focus on science, picture books and culinary arts, with four chefs presenting demonstrations.

The festival features more than 100 authors and illustrators. Historian Doris Kearns Goodwin and former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan recently joined the lineup.
