County Wanted Faster Response From Contractor, Westfield After Montgomery Mall Garage Collapse — An official from the county’s Department of Permitting Services admonished general contractor Whiting-Turner and Westfield for failing to provide analysis of the garage collapse that killed one construction worker and injured another in May. The official also says the two parties did not put together a repair plan soon enough after the accident, leaving unsafe conditions. The garage is part of Westfield’s planned food court and movie theater expansion. Construction has been stopped there since the accident. [Washington Post]

Bill Haas wins AT&T National, Which Finishes Its Week At Congressional — The tournament went to PGA veteran Bill Haas, who picked up his trophy from tournament host and defending champion Tiger Woods. It’s not yet known how much attendance dipped because Woods wasn’t in the field or if it was the last AT&T National at the club, which must decide if it wants to continue hosting the event.
