Purple Line Could Be In Competition With Baltimore Light Rail For Funding — State transportation officials say the Purple Line light rail is on the same footing as the Red Line light rail planned for Baltimore. But the Baltimore project is seven months ahead of the Purple Line in the federal funding process because the Obama administration expedited its environmental review. Purple Line planners say they hope to have the $2.1 billion light rail open in 2020. [Washington Post]

Van Hollen Honors Local Military Academy Graduates, Appointees — Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D) honored local military academy graduates and new appointees on Monday in Rockville. Among the Bethesda-Chevy Chase area graduates is Peter Asmuth Jr. (Army), Michael Tuttle (Merchant Marine) and Jacob Boross (Coast Guard). Bethesda natives James Duncan and Parker Hornstein will be attending West Point as part of the class of 2017. Corinne Caggiano, Nicholas King, Charlotte Meyer and Max Smith will be heading to Annapolis as part of the Naval Academy’s class of 2017.
