ARLINGTON, Va. – Area police departments formed teams, laced-up their skates and played hockey to benefit a Fairfax County officer who is recovering from a serious head-on crash.

Fairfax County Police Officer Long “Junior” Dinh was critically injured in a high- speed police pursuit in February.

Dinh has since undergone multiple surgeries, and he continues rehabilitation.

“We’re just trying to help him out as best as we can,” Joe Trahey, who serves with City of Fairfax Police Department, said as he took the ice.

On Sunday evening, a county police hockey team made up of multiple departments from Northern Virginia skated against a group representing D.C. police.

Community members came out to Kettler Capitals Iceplex to make a donation and see the action.

“We’re out here just to play and raise a little bit of money for him,” said Dan Goldman, a Fairfax County officer who trained with Dinh.

“He’s definitely a stand-up guy, he’ll do anything for anyone, and he’s a hard worker,” says Goldman.

Additional donations can be made through the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 77.

Checks made out to FOP Fairfax Lodge 77 can be sent to the following address:

FOP Fairfax Lodge 77
1921 Gallows Rd., Suite 750
Vienna, VA 22182

Include Officer Dinh donation on the memo line.
