Diamonds are a D.C. girl’s best friend

WASHINGTON – When it comes to Washington’s taste in diamonds, the region is tapping into the national conscience.

“Their tastes are exactly on par with the national preference which is round cut diamonds, generally colorless and high-clarity grades of round cut,” says Josh Holland of the diamond outfitter Blue Nile. “This is the most frequent choice of Washingtonians.”

The average cost for a ring is $4,000 and the best place to propose is the Tidal Basin at the peak of the cherry blossom season. When all else fails, Blue Nile says the Washington Monument is also hard to beat.
