Alleged Rockville puppy thief caught on tape (Video)

WASHINGTON – Police in Rockville, Md., are looking for a woman with a Cheshire cat tattoo on her neck who they say stole a puppy from a local pet shop.

Employees of Just Puppies on Viers Mill Road in Rockville told police a woman came into the store on April 12 and asked to see a Maltese puppy. She reportedly played with the dog for about 15 to 20 minutes before allegedly putting it in her purse and leaving the store.

Surveillance video shows the woman appearing to put the puppy in her bag at about 5 p.m. The dog is worth more than $1,000, police say.

The woman is described as white, 25 to 30 years old, between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing between 110 and 120 pounds. Employees say she spoke with an Eastern European accent and had a Cheshire cat on the back of her neck.

Anyone with information about the woman or the puppy is asked to call police at 240- 314-8938.
