Sexual assault in Alexandria, police search for suspect

WASHINGTON – A woman was sexually assaulted in Alexandria on Thursday after telling a would-be robber that she had no money, police say.

A 20-year-old woman was walking near the intersection of Eisenhower Avenue and Van Dorn Street around 11:30 p.m. when she says a man approached her with a knife and demanded money.

When she said she didn’t have any, the suspect grabbed her, pulled her over a guardrail into some bushes and sexually assaulted her, according to a news release.

The woman was not seriously injured.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his late-20s or early-30s, about 5 feet 7 inches and weighing close to 150 pounds. He has black hair and was clean- shaven. He was wearing a dark brown T-shirt, blue jeans, tennis shoes and black framed glasses.

Anyone with information is asked to call 703-745-6600.
