ALEXANDRIA, Va. – A Waldorf man charged in connection with the murder of community activist Lenny Harris has reportedly struck a plea deal.

The Alexandria Times reports that Ivan Newman struck a plea deal with prosecutors. In turn, a judge has dropped first-degree murder and kidnapping charges against him in August.

Newman will be sentenced in January for less serious charges in connection with the robbery that led to Harris’ death. Harris’s body was found in a Fort Washington well in January after he was reported missing last September.

Police say an Oxon Hill man confessed to the murder after Newman was taken into custody. A third man is also charged in the crime.
