Md. magical institution is closing its doors

WASHINGTON – Barry’s Magic Shop, a Maryland institution for 38 years, is closing its doors.

It’s final disappearing act next month is a result of competing Internet sales and financial pressure.

Barry Taylor and his wife moved the shop from Wheaton to its current North Bethesda location five years ago. For years they have offered world-class lectures and one-on-one advice to budding magicians and magic enthusiasts.

But Taylor says closing the doors will enable him to focus on his first love — performing. He has performed for such celebrities as Quincy Jones and Andrea Boccelli.

Taylor says starting immediately, everything in the shop will be sold at a 30 percent discount.

And then come July 15, Barry’s Magic Shop is gone.

But watch him closely, Taylor expects to re-launch BarrysMagicShop.com later as an online source for the tricks he creates.
