Snickers: America’s favorite chocolate candy

WASHINGTON – Walk into any grocery store and you’ll see the remnants of this weekend’s holiday feast on the shelves.

Large bags of candy that didn’t make it into an Easter basket sit forlorn, beckoning people to come and buy them now that their prices have been slashed.

The choices can be overwhelming. All kinds of hard candy and Easter-themed sweets are available. But if sales from the past year are any indication, you’re most likely going to go for a Snickers to satisfy your chocolate craving.

Mars, the company that makes Snickers, sold over $424 million of the nut, nougat and caramel-filled treat in the past year, according to 247wallst.com. M&M’s were a close second, with over $417 million in sales. Reese’s, Hershey’s and Kit Kat also made the list of the top five chocolate candy sales.

And the most inexpensive U.S. chocolate on the top five list?

Snickers, at $1.04 per unit.
