Trial starts in Ijamsville dog neglect case

FREDERICK, Md. – A recent case of animal neglect has an animal rights group trying to get the word out on awareness of serious animal abuse.

Danielle Krull, 33, and Christopher David Stone, 32, both of Frederick, each face 24 charges.

The two are charged with failing to provide proper veterinary care after abandoning eight dogs — seven pit bull-mix puppies and an adult male dog — alongside a road in Ijamsville, Md., a rural town in Frederick County.

Investigators say a witness who recognized the dogs led them to Stone and Krull.

The dogs were found malnourished, dehydrated and suffering from severe cases of mange and hypothermia, according to Animal Control officials.

An adult dog was euthanized when officials determined it had serious medical problems. Animal Control Director Harold Domer told WJZ-TV five puppies have been adopted and the other two were rescued by the Animal Welfare League of Frederick County.

Krull’s trial is set for 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Frederick County Courthouse.

The animal welfare league is asking for concerned citizens, animal lovers and animal advocacy groups to join them at the courthouse in order to send a message that animal abuse and neglect will not be tolerated in Frederick County.
