Fear of losing cellphone on the rise

WASHINGTON – Nomophobia, short for “no-mobile-phone phobia,” is on the rise, according to a survey of 1,000 people done for SecurEnvoy.

An online survey of 1,000 people, done in the United Kingdom, found 66 percent of employed people fear losing or being without their cellphones.

Four years ago, 53 percent of people were anxious about losing their phones.

Women worry about it more than men — 70 percent compared to 61 percent. People between 18 and 24 (77 percent) are the most nomophobic, followed by folks between 25 and 34 (68 percent).

The survey also found 49 percent of people get upset if a partner has read their texts or listened to their messages.
