Video captures young Obama’s restaurant review

WASHINGTON — Before he became president of the United States, Barack Obama
was a restaurant critic
of sorts.

In 2001, Obama appeared on PBS member station WTTV’s show
about local restaurants called “Check, Please!”

Someone on Reddit dug it up and shared it with the
Internet.

Obama — then a 40-year-old state senator — shared his thoughts on Hyde
Park’s Dixie Kitchen, calling it “the kind of restaurant every neighborhood
should have.”

Obama said he tested the Southern sampler at the Dixie Kitchen.

“The prices are right and the portions are good,” the economic-minded Obama
said.

Small business owners — and peach cobbler — were at the top of Obama’s mind.

“I want to see our small businesses owners succeeding out there,” he said.
