New food series swaps celebrity competitions for real people

WASHINGTON — TV’s latest food show doesn’t feature dueling celebrity chefs, cupcake competitions and timed runs through a grocery store. The PBS series “Food Forward TV” is a food show about people.

Greg Roden, co-creator, co-executive producer and director of the series, says he wanted to create a positive, inspired series about Americans who are helping to transform food in America.

“It’s definitely not a cooking show, it’s not a travel show,” Roden says. “It’s really everyday people all across the country who are showcasing the alternatives to some of the big challenges we have in our food system.”

Each of the 13 half-hour episodes focuses on a different topic or subject. The first episode of the series, airing Saturday, Sept. 13 at 12:30 p.m. in the D.C. area, explores the problems with fishing in the U.S. and around the globe.
