It’s work-life mashup, not work-life balance

WASHINGTON — As president of online petition site change.org and both a mother and a wife, Jennifer Dulski has a lot of responsibilities. Sometimes a work call comes in when she sits down to dinner with her family. Sometimes her daughter’s school calls when she’s in a meeting.

Does she take the call? Yes.

“The whole concept of work-life balance is bull,” she writes in an article on LinkedIn. “I’m still a parent when I walk into work, and I still lead a company when I come home.”

That in mind, Dulski says her goal would more aptly be described as a “work-life mashup,” she writes.

“The times when the mashup has worked best for me are when I find ways to creatively blend my work and family together,” Dulski says. “This setup has also helped me show the team that a family-friendly work environment was encouraged.”
