WASHINGTON (AP) — Large folk art creations in urban Detroit and Los Angeles neighborhoods, a museum garden in New York and a massive light installation on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge are being listed among the nation’s endangered landscapes this year.
On Wednesday, the Washington-based Cultural Landscape Foundation announced its new list of 11 parks, gardens and land-based art that are threatened by demolition, neglect or lack of funding. The group works to preserve notable U.S. landscapes.
Endangered sites noted on the “Landslide 2014 Art and the Landscape” list span from New York to New Mexico and Seattle.
In Los Angeles, the list includes Watts Towers, a group of 17 sculptures threatened by improper maintenance. In San Francisco, preservationists are working to preserve “The Bay Lights” installation on the Bay Bridge.
