MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) — A Long Island man has been sentenced to up to three years in prison following the deaths of 13 pit bulls that prosecutors say were bred and trained for fighting.
Anthony Reddick was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty in August to charges including animal fighting. He also was charged with training of dogs and possession of animal fighting paraphernalia.
Reddick was a tenant in a Freeport home where investigators discovered dead dogs and dogfighting equipment following a garage fire in February. Three other pit bulls were found alive.
As part of his sentence, Reddick is prohibited from owning any other animals for 15 years.
The dead dogs ranged in age from about 2½ months to 5 years old.
