Snake Pit wins feature at Monmouth Park

OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) — Snake Pit used a powerful stretch run to beat Spa City Fever by three lengths Saturday in the $41,400 allowance feature at Monmouth Park.

Trained by Chad Brown and ridden by Abel Castellano Jr., Snake Pit ran a mile and 70 yards in 1:41 1-5. The 4-year-old paid $7.40, $4.40 and $3.40 in winning for the fourth time in 15 career starts. Spa City Fever returned $4.40 and $3, and Going to Market paid $3.20 to show.

Trainer Jorge Navarro tied the track record with four victories Saturday. Monmouth Park’s leading trainer last year, he won the first race with Bamboo Stick, the second with Someday on Sunday, the third with Upon Reflection and the sixth with Lasso.
