Do men or women take more selfies?

WASHINGTON – The stereotype says women are the vainer sex, but a recent survey suggests otherwise.

A survey commissioned by Samsung says that men are taking nearly twice as many “selfies” — cellphone self-portraits — as women.

A third of respondents to the survey, published in the Daily Mail, also admitted that they have missed a great moment in life because they were too busy taking a picture of themselves.

A behavioral scientist interviewed by the Daily Mail says that the macho, technological aspect of taking a selfie overrides the vanity involved, making it “a more acceptable way of revealing their vanity.”

The Oxford Dictionaries named “selfie” the word of 2013, beating out “twerk,” “binge-watch” and “showrooming.”
