WASHINGTON – If you’re feeling confident in your relationship, maybe it’s time to hit the road. After all, road trips are the new way to test — and strengthen – – your relationship.
A survey co-sponsored by Ford and relationship website YourTango asked traveling couples what is the best — and worst — part of being in the car together.
The survey took into account the fact that long trips involve a lot of time in a very small space. But despite these confining factors, couples like the journey.
“The best reason to take a road trip together, according to our couples, is not the destination so much but the fun and adventure of getting there,” says Andrea Miller, chief executive officer and founder of YourTango. “It does give couples the opportunity to spend quality time together.”
Eighty percent of the couples surveyed like to talk to each other on road trips. Miller says couples have some of their best and more serious/meaningful conversations in the car.
Those looking to avoid meaningful conversations on the drive also have fun with their partners on a trip. Seventy percent of survey respondents like to sing and blast their favorite music.
And just because you are on the road does not mean the romance has to die. Seventy-four percent of couples surveyed hold hands or kiss at stop lights.
It looks like love will be in the air this summer, since 90 percent of the couples indicate they will take a road trip together this season. So the next time you’re looking for some quality time with your significant other, hit the road.
