View from Venus: Move over, Kim Kardashian

WASHINGTON – Asking plastic surgeons for a butt like Kim Kardashian or a bosom like Pamela Anderson are requests of the past. (Thank God!)

I never really understood unless you were a media staple why you would want to carry all the extra baggage up top or behind.

Now, it seems, many others are seeing the light, and focusing on a new body part – – the face!

Anthony Youn, a board-certified plastic surgeon in metro Detroit who has appeared on TV shows like “Dr. Oz” and “The Doctors,” says non-surgical procedures such as Botox and laser peels are gaining popularity among Baby Boomers.

He says 286,000 people got breast implants last year, compared to 6.1 million who had Botox.

The reason?

Baby Boomers are working later in life than previous generations and are feeling pressure to look good, Youn says.

“People are getting injections of treatments that they wouldn’t have had 10 to 15 years ago when we didn’t have quite as good non-surgical treatments,” he says.

And guys, don’t snicker because according to Dr. Youn, men are also lining up for procedures.

“We can hide the scars better, the techniques are better, there is much less down time and because of that, we’re seeing more and more men coming in,” he says. What’s next on the plastic surgery horizon, I wanted to know.

“Fat removal without actual surgery,” Youn replied.

Yea!
