Railcar repair firm to expand Va. operations

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A company that repairs railcars is planning to expand its operations in Charlotte County, creating 37 jobs.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe on Monday said Blue Ridge Railcar Repair LLC plans to invest $2.41 million to expand its facility that was established in Keysville in December 2013.

Blue Ridge Railcar Repair is a subsidiary of Patriot Rail Company. Parrot Rail operates 500 miles of short-line railroads and railcar repair facilities in 14 states across the country.

Officials say Virginia successfully competed against Louisiana for the project.

McAuliffe approved a $100,000 grant from the Governor’s Opportunity Fund for the project. The Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission approved $155,000 in funds for the project.
