Virginia aquarium to release 3 sea turtles

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) — The Virginia Aquarium Stranding Response Team is releasing three rehabilitated sea turtles.

A loggerhead sea turtle named Wolverine, a Kemp’s ridley sea turtle named Lex Luther and a Kemp’s ridley sea turtle named Loki will be released Monday afternoon along the shore in Virginia Beach.

A Tangier Island fisherman found Wolverine in July. The aquarium tells media outlets that the turtle had received a crushing, blunt force trauma to the head.

A fisherman hooked Lex Luther at Little Island Pier in Sandbridge in July. A large hook later was removed from its esophagus.

A fisherman found Loki at Kiptopeke State Park in December 2013. The turtle was suffering from pneumonia.
