Va. parents charged with neglect in baby’s death

NOKESVILLE, Va. (AP) — Two Nokesville parents have been charged with felony child neglect in the death of their 9-month-old girl after police say the baby was left unattended in a crib for 16 hours.

Prince William County police say they were called to the home on Aqua View Court on Sunday to investigate an unresponsive infant and found the baby, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the parents, Adam and Jasmyne Alexander, both age 21, left their girl unattended in her crib from 8:30 p.m. Saturday to 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. Police also say the parents noticed a potential breathing problem a month earlier but did not take the child to the doctor.

The parents were arrested and charges were filed on Thursday.
