CHESAPEAKE, Va. (AP) — A Virginia man has been sentenced to six months in jail for stealing water service and rigging a pipe that shocked an employee trying to turn it off.
Twenty-three-year-old John J. Cirillo of Chesapeake was sentenced Tuesday in Chesapeake General District Court. The Virginian-Pilot (http://bit.ly/1s7NJIJ) reports he pleaded guilty to theft and no contest to assault. Both are misdemeanors.
According to a search warrant affidavit, a water utility employee was injured May 28 outside Cirillo’s home while she was disconnecting a plastic pipe that was rigged to city water without a meter.
The affidavit says two batteries were connected to the pipe and the employee required medical attention for an electric shock.
Cirillo’s water service had been turned off in early April for unpaid charges.
