Virginia State University receives federal grant

PETERSBURG, Va. (AP) — Virginia State University has received a federal grant to help develop a training program for the country’s wireless networks.

The Department of Labor awarded the university more than $3 million to focus on educating veterans, displaced workers and others.

The school says the grant will extend through 2018 and is aimed at developing technicians for the wireless industry.

Virginia State says the program will be one of only two offered in the United States.

Virginia State developed the program with support from the Professional Communications Industry Association, which will assist in extending the program with a national credentialing framework.
