Columbia Gas building pipeline in Caroline County

BOWLING GREEN, Va. (AP) — Columbia Gas of Virginia is building a 6-mile-long pipeline to serve an industrial customer in rural Caroline County and help the area recruit other industries.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/1szdv8P) that the $5 million project will provide natural gas to the Hoover Treated Wood Products plant in Milford.

Chesterfield County-based Columbia Gas says construction of the pipeline is underway and is expected to be completed in November. The 6-inch steel pipeline can carry 250,000 cubic feet of gas per hour.

The company says it’s the first project using Virginia legislation designed to help provide service and aid economic development for areas where adequate natural gas infrastructure isn’t available.

The cost is being shared by Columbia Gas and Hoover Treated Wood Products. Caroline County donated right of way for the pipeline.
