Va. inmates sentenced for plot to abduct warden

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Two inmates have been sentenced to 10 years in prison each for plotting to abduct and kill the warden of a state prison in southwest Virginia.

Attorney General Mark Herring said Larry Darnell Boone and James T. Brown were sentenced earlier this week in Buchanan County Circuit Court after entering guilty pleas on conspiracy charges.

The plot was uncovered through an anonymous letter days before Boone was set to be released from Haysi Regional Jail last September.

Officials say Boone planned to help Brown break out of Red Onion State Prison and abduct the warden at Keen Mountain Correctional Center.

Boone had been serving time for robbery and other charges in Norfolk. Brown is currently serving a 30 year prison sentence for larceny and burglary offenses in South Carolina.
